Fall is here which makes it the perfect time to get outside and care for your lawn. Besides lawn care, all those flowers you bought during the spring may be fading away. Fall Lawn Care

Fertilize your lawn now and then fertilize it again in approximately six to eight weeks. Grass roots may be damaged due to the dry, hot summer. Feeding the lawn helps the roots repair themselves. This will allow you to have a beautiful, green lawn in the spring.

Weeds are almost always a problem so choose fertilizer that also includes a weed killer. This way you can get two jobs done at once. Visit a garden center to find the type of fertilizer you need and follow the directions on how to apply it.

If your lawn has dry patches or patches that simply look dead, now is a time to reseed your lawn. You can purchase grass seed at a garden center. Once the new grass starts growing, keep it moist until the grass is tall enough to mow. A sprinkler system works well for this purpose.

Do not leave those beautiful, colorful leaves on the ground, but instead turn them into mulch. Leaving your lawn covered with leaves blocks the grass from receiving any sun, which will result in the grass drying. You can mulch leaves by simply mowing over them until they are into small pieces. Bag the leaves up to use as mulch for your flowers, if preferred.

Fall Flowers

If you walk into any garden center, home improvement store, or even grocery store, you will likely see mums. They are one of the favorite flowers for fall and look great sitting on your front porch sitting next to some pumpkins. You can find them in colors of yellow, red, pink and purple.

If you purchase mums, it is very important that you keep them moist. Mums need to stay moist or they will dry up and die. You may consider planting the mums in the ground, but you may want to wait. Mums are a perennial flower and are best planted in the spring. If planted in the winter the roots do not have time to get established. This is why many people throw the mums out at the end of the growing season.

Pansies are another fall favorite. These flowers are annuals and they are easy to grow. They like full sun and grow best in cool weather. This is why pansies are often planted either in the early spring of fall. Plant these flowers in rich soil that is well drained and high in organic matter, such as compost.

You can find pansies in many different colors, such as in yellow, purple, dark blue, and tri-color.
